Awards and Recognition

The Saint Francis Cancer Treatment Center has been nationally recognized for our work in breast cancer treatment. These awards and designations reflect our high level of expertise and commitment to advanced care.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Cancer Centers Program (NCCCP)

Only 21 cancer centers in the nation have the NCCCP designation. Saint Francis was an original member when the program launched in 2007, and we continue our participation today.

NCCCP cancer centers are focused on providing patients with advanced care by:

  • Reducing health care disparities.
  • Improving patient access to clinical trials.
  • Developing and strengthening an infrastructure to collect high-quality biospecimens for research.
  • Improving survivorship programs, palliative care services, and patient advocacy.
  • Enhancing overall quality of care.

Breast Imaging Center of Excellence, American College of Radiology

In 2010, we were awarded a three-year term of accreditation as a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. In order to receive the accreditation, we first had to achieve accreditation in digital mammography, ultrasound, and stereotactic breast biopsy. Evaluations assessed our qualifications regarding:

  • Image quality
  • Personnel qualifications
  • Facility equipment
  • Quality control procedures
  • Quality assurance programs

Accreditation with Commendation, Commission on Cancer (CoC)

Saint Francis obtained this three-year accreditation with commendation in 2010. The Commission on Cancer sets high standards in key areas that demonstrate a cancer center’s commitment to research and quality of care. A physician surveyor conducted an evaluation that reviewed our:

  • Cancer committee leadership
  • Cancer data management
  • Clinical services
  • Research
  • Community outreach

Outstanding Achievement Award, Commission on Cancer (CoC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS)

The CoC presented us with this award in 2011 based on surveys conducted in 2010. Of all cancer centers surveyed in that year, only 17 percent were selected. The award recognizes our commitment to quality patient care and is based on our compliance with standards regarding:

  • Cancer committee leadership
  • Cancer data management
  • Clinical management
  • Research
  • Community outreach
  • Quality improvement

Accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACOS)

In 2012, we received a three-year full accreditation designation from NAPBC. The accreditation requires a rigorous evaluation process and is only given to centers that have voluntarily committed to providing the highest level of quality breast care. The evaluation process ensures patients have access to comprehensive care including a full range of state-of-the-art services, a multidisciplinary team approach to treatment coordination, clinical trials and new treatment options, and quality breast care close to home. Areas of evaluation include:

  • Center leadership
  • Clinical management
  • Research
  • Community outreach
  • Professional education
  • Quality improvement
