Areas to Support

Project Care
Project Care is a financial assistance program that helps low-income patients or their families meet expenses resulting from their medical care and aren’t paid for by other sources.  The focus of Project Care is to help provide emergency financial assistance when no other options are available. We partner with other agencies to help connect people with resources in the community as well as ensure we don’t duplicate available services. Often we can meet very individualized needs that are not addressed by other services, but go a long way in helping a family in crisis.

Cancer Care
The Saint Francis Cancer Treatment Center offers leading edge cancer care to central Nebraskans close to home, so patients can remain active it their lives. The support of the Foundation helped to purchase two digital mammography machines which offer the best for early breast cancer detection.  The continued generosity of donors helps to fund technology, amenities and educational programs for the general public as well as cancer survivors.

End of Life Care
Having the comfort of hospice care throughout a life-limiting illness can be a huge support to patients and their family members.  Many Foundation donors who have been touched by hospice, give donations designated to support this service. In addition, grant funding helps to support education on end of life planning and decision-making through the Grand Island Coalition for End of Life Care.

Diabetes Education
Diabetes is an ever growing health problem for Americans and can lead to a variety of other health problems. Diabetes awareness and education can help to prevent this disease as well as help people with diabetes manage their condition and improve their quality of life.  Donations to the Foundation can be designated to support education through events such as our Diabetes Awareness Fair held every November.

Child Safety
The Child Safety Department at Saint Francis focuses on preventing childhood injuries through education. The continue working to education the community about the importance of child safety seats and offer education to parents and other caregivers on proper selection and installation of the seats. This year, with the support of a Kohl’s Cares for Kids grant, the Child Safety Department started “Growing Up Safe,” which lets parents register to receive important child safety information appropriate to their child’s age and stage of development.

Family Birthing Center and NICU
Saint Francis Family Birthing Center welcomes nearly 1,000 new babies every year.  Foundation support can help with special projects that benefit babies. For example the Foundation support funded “sleep sacks,” which are special sleepers designed to help swaddle babies and encourage parents to prevent SIDS by placing babies on their backs to sleep.

These are just a few examples of how community support makes such a difference. If you have a special interest or way you would like to support Saint Francis Medical Center, please contact the Foundation. We would be happy to work with you to find a way to support services that are most meaningful to you.
